It's not about growing up she has a cluster B personality disorder she refuses to get therapy or take medication for. In her mind it is better to destroy herself and everyone that loves her and tries to help her than to humble herself and accept the help and advice of loved ones and professionals. She knows she is sick but she can't get past her own ego and illness.
