I think it is only going to become more common in the future as a lot of them marry immediate cousins which create these fucked up offspring. Either born that way or as in the article made that way. In a sense it will be interesting to see what happens to their population, even if they bring in new ones the gene pool is continued to be damaged by these immediate family relationships.
Not just Sri Lankans but all those Asian populations that marry immediate or close family members.
