Self defence laws aren't terrible here. The big difficulty is justifying why you had the weapon in the first place, not so much how you used it, assuming the use was somewhat symmetric. eg. clubbing someone for swearing would not be justified.

Most of the violence with cunts like that here is performative. They don't want to get into a fight but they really don't want to be seen backing down from a fight. I've found it is a good practice to not provoke them (so as to not create the social obligation for them to fight them) but not in any way look weak (as this will make them more likely to attack). Silently looking at them and looking completely calm is one way of doing it. Think of how the driver is in Drive or the guy with glasses is Sicario.
