Had a thought that the sphinx was naturally there (before being cut), and associated with the dogstar so the positioning of the three Giza pyramids as Orion's belt next to it replicate how they're positioned in the sky.
Thinking about the sphinx as the cornerstone rather than Khufu's pyramid.
