They already do that, the sophisticated ones literally spy on what you're printing, and phone it home.
But what Chain is talking about is that buying a 3D printer now literally gets you added to a watchlist, and if your next purchases after the printer are anything even tangentially related to gun parts, it gets you added to a more severe watchlist.
They've used it to prosecute and raid people already. Amazon and credit card companies willingly cooperated with them to do it, too.
