I read/heard an opinion somewhere (so I can't really link the source) that the place at Lyman is like Bakhmut was: to draw Ukrainian forces there while the real fighting is done in the main direction.
I dunno. As Matt of WillyOAM usually says: extraordinary claims need extraordinary evidence.
