I don´t know but DHX has managed to deride several times the ratings and has played with the limits of it. That´s why I somehow admire how they keep the show for two audiences at the same time and appealing to both.
That´s a question that I have never asked by myself but they have got away with it and they imply fucked up things by making them somewhat friendly in disguise.

I can put you a recent example that I like a lot and it´s Surf and /Or Turf, which aired this year, and it implied a divorce between two parents and the kid was struggling to choose with who he should stay (pic related). The episode gives a conversation between them and it implies that they are in that situation. It seems an average episode (with a little musical for the decision) but the actual concept is hidden between the execution. It´s subtle enough for anyone to notice it explicitly, especially for kids who are actually in that same situation.

I guess that´s how it works sometimes. As for the fight between Tirek and Twilight, I honestly have no idea how they did it. It simply happened and we are all fine with that.
