Don't be afraid to venture out from the meme programing languages. Stuff like Python is popular for a reason, but sometimes all the bells and whistles leave a lot to be desired in certain specialty tasks.

There are some people who are complete script kitties who only barely know how to "code" where the object oriented world that most are directed towards actually doesn't fit. Some people get functional coding better and it comes to them more naturally.
