You can view satellite data. Not high enough granularity to track explosions like that guy, but you can see the temperature is like 60F, so if there really are fires, they're not starting spontaneously.

It has been intentional in the past.

It looks like he is using a light map, if I had to guess. It would have to be geosynchronous to provide a still image.

I don't see much for it to be legit. The "explosions" on that map would be hundred+ square miles large... That would be a major attack, not starting a forest fire.
