Alright, picture this: you're Trump. You're aware that the faux news is going to try to steal your base and return them to the neocon warhawk uniparty.
In order to do this, the C_A assets need to garner the trust of those they are trying to manipulate. Since many conservatives, libertarians, and other good people already trust the president and you've been the uniparty voice of the "conservatives" forever... you've got to show support to the president.
Then, some fake story, some fixed scandal, whatever... you use it to turn everyone who seeks you (Hannity) for truth.
So what do you (as Trump) do to win the bigglest in this situation, without upsetting the execution of [the plan]?
Use them for your mouthpiece, as loudly as possible and for as long as possible. Wake up as many people to MAGA and the fake news media as much as possible. Ever notice how Fox calls everyone else the "fake news media?" They're riding Trump's dick for a coup attempt. And he's gonna drag them for his gain as long as possible. It's the only smart thing to do.
Trump's personal relationship with Hannity, I'm not going to speculate on this. They may be friends, maybe Hannity has career-ending dirt held over his head. Well, less maybe, and what we already know about how all media works... certainly.
