From how you describe it you seem to have a preconceived idea of what this path of transcendence would be like ("Not some boring monk trying to reach transcendence to escape pain and suffering"). But since you've never gone down this path you can't know if it is not better than if you choose the (duality) path of pain and anger. You dismiss the other alternative before even trying it
