I don't think they say that. Or maybe you mean different people than the ones I know. Of course the current reality will still be experienced, but it will be perceived from a more zoomed out, non personal perspective. As if you were watching yourself from a bird's view

I don't disagree with this

You are not even giving yourself more time to practice self-knowledge, you are wasting time and effort in controlling something that requires no control.
I am not in favor of a monk life or moving away from civilization to find transcendence in a cave or whatever. The transcendence can be found while in civilization as well. And there is no control involved in it

I like both Gurdjieff and J. Krishnamurti's approaches. Both of what they talk about requires no control or no monk type of life
