I'm used to people not understanding this (I mean IRL and in other parts of the internet, I have more faith in you guys) but I find the Lovecraftian stuff (and its derivatives and descendants) much more interesting and engrossing than "spooky scary chainsaw man" movies. Or "spooky scary little girl" movies. That's probably like 95% of the whole genre if you add the two tropes, sadly. When people say they're into horror movies and when I say I'm into horror movies we're usually talking about two completely different things
