it's honestly insane how "minimalistic" (sterile) the internet has become. I don't have anything against a sane amount of whitespace in an UI or modern design trends but they really went overboard with the graphic design hipster idiocy in the last few years. There was a special kind of simplicity, TRUE honest functional simplicity to early Web 2.0 design like phpbb forums, the original reddit interface, slashdot, all that stuff. not to mention that the new ones demand like 20 times more RAM for some reason (probably accessing your webcam and streaming directly to the CIA the whole time). these new frontends are the virtual equivalent of those overly simple scandinavian interiors that should be cheap but are actually more expensive than just about anything else you could do
