Yeah I'd ignore that part if I were you. My first thought upon hearing that was that there must be millions of "high functioning" autistic people that have been employed for decades and were never diagnosed. Also the line between autistic and non-autistic people gets very thin and blurry at a certain point. It definitely is more of a wide spectrum than a simple condition that you just have or don't have
