I don't know if this is purely related to autism. A lot of the times people who are doing dumb things need to be told it and there is no real nice way of saying it if their perception of themself is already that they are either 1) without flaws or 2) they don't want to hear because they will have some emotional outburst because they are living in denial about themselves. My mom had this really strongly and my sister does as well
