Linux is a meme operating system for meme people, literally everyone I know that considers themselves a "serious Linux user" is either completely retarded or just a living Reddit-Meme on legs with an extra bit of cancer on top. Why do freeshits think they're hot shit for using an unusable and unmaintainable piece of shit and getting on everyone's nerves with it?

so use OpenBSD if you don't like lincucks

at least Linux is somewhat usable, unlike the alternatives

wake me up when Haiku supports full disk encryption and GTK-based programs

Linux gets worse every year. It was best before the desktop environments for normies happened. It was originally a Unix alternative, and it's become a Windows alternative. But I never wanted to have anything to do with Windows or anything similar. I should have stayed on DOS, instead of installing Linux. Better yet, I should have just kept my Amiga 500 and never upgraded to 486 PC.

We need a movement to Haiku OS, but do not bring the pozzed GTK to Haiku OS. There is probably a better widget toolkit included in Haiku.

Use ReactOS.

>Imagine running your favorite Windows applications and drivers in an open-source environment you can trust.
>That's the mission of ReactOS!

I did not even know this even existed. How stable is it?

ReactOS is still in Alpha. It isn't really good for regular usage yet.

I don't even want any of that desktop bloat. I did everything possible to configure my system for tty framebuffer use. A 486 or older PC with DOS would be better, but this is the best I can do at this late clownworld stage, where sometimes I have to startx and run the firefox piece of shit browser.

I can't stand the Gtk shit that paved the way for max bloatage of Linux with freedesktop.org garbage. Not that Qt is any better. All those graphical shits are lame, and X should have stuck with just Athena to keep normies away.
For encryption, I don't need full disk, just some confidential password and personal records encrypted. But any OS can do this, even DOS.

It probably sounds super gay, but I run alpine linux, and for those few things that still don't work with musl, I have a gentoo chroot to build and run them.

Not to shit on your efforts, as they are commendable, but if pic attached is your machine, then your autism levels are truly unimaginable.
Choosing Ubuntu for a bloat-free OS is the most retarded thing I've ever heard and I remember my Xorg/LXDE setup using less RAM during normal usage, which kinda (but not completely) defeats the point.

My main concern was hardware support, so that's why I'm using this Ubuntu 16.04 (but it's actually an Armbian build). I tried some others, like for example Devuan, but had problems. In fact, I'm not even going to upgrade to the 18.04 release because from reading the Armbian forums it seems like VGA is no longer supported, and I bought this board specifically because it's got a native VGA port that I've got attached to an old 5:4 LCD monitor. I don't want HDMI, or widescreens, or even the DRM kernel crap. Here I use the old school fbcon driver at 640x480 and a Codepage 437 VGA font. That's the closest I can get to an old 486 DOS computer without spending lots of money, and still remaining practical (I can occasionally run the modern firefox bullshit whenever I need to).
Out of those processes >>14376 links2 is the big memory hog. It uses tons of memory for cache, but that's fine because that's exactly how I want my memory used. I also have some tmpfs setup for /dev/shm, /run, /run/lock, and /tmp (in fact half the computer's memory is available for /tmp, which I use as a staging area for downloaded files, for compiling stuff, or doing various things that involve lots of filesystem I/O).
That said, the modern Linux software seems pretty bloated to me, compared to how it was on Slackware in 1995. Even though this is a 32-bit ARM, a freshly started lynx process consumes 8088 KiB (of which half are RES). That wouldn't even have fit on my 486, which initially had only 4 MB when I installed Linux the first time. But I could still use Lynx back then without swapping, so obviously things have changed a lot. And just inspecting the lynx binary shows it's linked to a bunch of crap, some of which I'm not sure wtf it does.

Oh wait, it looks like that libp11-kit is a freedesktop.org/gnome framework bullshit. No wonder Lynx is bloated now! They only make shitty bloated crap. I would eradicate all that junk off my computers if I could do it easily. Of course that's impossible because Firefox uses that junk.

Gotta be honest with ya, I hate the Archidiots who shove Loonix all over the place. They ruin it for everybody. Arch is a meme OS or at the very least something you use to tinker for fun.

For my own usage I would rather use Ubuntu or Debian since they're actually usable. Windows 10 is even worse, at least it works but the amount of shit it does by itself just makes everything slow down to a crawl. I would rather be able to use my machine than follow some retard thinking using monopolyOS is somehow beneficial to me.

Where does the idea come from that GUI's are "bloat" and exist for normalfags? I'm not going to poison this question with speculation, assumptions, or theories and will just wait for your perspectives.

Before Win95 came along, pretty much everyone had the choice to use GUI or not. DOS computers with 640 KB or less were very common, and capable enough to do most office tasks, like word processing, spreadsheets, and whatnot.
My aunt had an old Amstrad PC1512 that she used through most of the 90's to do all her stuff, including Internet. This particular model had 512 KB RAM, two 5.25-inch floppy drives, and a 2400 baud modem. Also it had a nice dot matrix printer that she used to print letters, and (postal) mailing lists, and other stuff. This was a perfectly adequate setup for all her tasks, because--get this--everything including the Internet at the time was mostly text-oriented!
In fact, if you really wanted to, you could have just as well used an 8-bit computer for all that stuff back then. You didn't even need graphics at all, and most of the early CP/M computers that could run WordStar didn't have any graphics. Like, if you wrote a byte to the video memory, you'd get a character on the screen. And IBM PCs themselves didn't necessary have a graphics card either.
