"200 g dillseed oil was distilled under reduced pressure. A 30cm long
column was used. The dillapiole came over at 118C at 0.5mmHg and was a slightly
yellow liquid.
A total of 155g dillapiole was collected. This was 98% pure by GC (the chief
contaminant was myristicin).
55.5g dillapiole, 4 g aliquat 336 and 20g of finely ground KOH was held on a boiling waterbath for 15minutes. The reaction mixture was sucked through a porcelain filter. The solids was washed with a small amount of CH2Cl2. The organic phases were combined and the DCM was removed under vacuum. The crude isodillapiole was distilled under reduced pressure. The isodillapiole distilled at 138-140C (pressure was not measured, probably about 1mmHg). A total of 46g was recovered. It contained 95% isodillapiole and 5% unreacted dillapiole according to GC analysis. No myristicin was detected.
