He did it out of self interest, just like we all do, but at the end of the day it's always going to short lived with these girls. They don't love the man they're with, they see them as more of a fun little reprieve from the chaos but these girls belong to the streets. They strive for the chaos well playing the victim role. They know what they're doing, they're not THAT stupid... I mean fuck, she's friends with cewl and she can see what cewl does.
