not wanting gifts doesn't even invalidate the benefits that his status affords him. I went out of my way to not assume to know how she thinks. She either knows, doesn't know but thinks she does, or maybe she hasn't even thought about why she would want to meet up with him. We simply don't know. If you think people only behave in ways that make sense to them or involve concrete plans then you're mistaken
