Imagine if the Roman Empire was a Democracy and the region of Gaul elected some guy who wanted Gallic Independence. So then the right-wing had to hope that the citizens of Rome would elect an Emperor who would fight against this movement, but they failed to do so and Gaul broke off. Then the Empire was overrun by Barbarians but they had to wait 4 years for another election cycle before they could elect a guy who would do something about it cause the current Emperor was a "Leftist" who had approached an open borders policy and blamed Radicalized Straight Roman Men for inciting violence.
