It's possible you're right, though I'd still need to see how the ex looks. I don't believe she exactly likes "weird" men, moreso that her mental issues are affecting her choices. Something like her being so insecure about her looks that she purposefully limits herself to average men, regardless of if she likes them or not. Her being with an abusive man could have been her thinking "He's the type of man I deserve" or something. But of course, that's just speculation.
