Her family problems infused with her mental issues made her essentially shut off at some point. It was around half a year after we talked about having feelings for each other. At some point I couldn't take it anymore and told her I was breaking up.
We had already semi-concrete plans for the vacation together near her place. Talked about the stuff we'd do together and in which area to stay. I have a good income, so I would have just paid for everything and see how it all would have worked out.

I'm not opposed to an LDR in general, but the same thing applies: make a concrete plan and try to stick by it.
