Sounds like she has immense pent up anger, expressing itself when under the influence of drugs and alcohol. Some family memebers of mine were alcoholics and they see the bottle as a liberation from the stress of the world and a "tool" of sorts to gather the courage to release their anger on others in the form of physical and verbal abuse. She sounds exactly like that. What few understand about these people is that they target vulnerable individuals like family memebers or their partners because they see them as enablers of their own abuse. Unless they are truly crazy and rather enjoy tormenting weaker people but could only do so while intoxicated.
