it's the same situation with every modern "civil rights" movement. when they started decades ago they were transgressive and opposed by the status quo, and now in the present they maintain that same rebellion attitude despite being backed by society at every level, so every human automaton who reads buzzfeed and watches CNN gets to feel like they're part of the wave of change, without the downside of actually being harassed and arrested like when they had a real cause.
and of course this is all being propped up intentionally by people who want America and the rest of the world to become like Weimar Germany.
