Bogarts character was well written, the problem was that bogart couldn't act. His dead pan persona is on par with stephen segal.

There weren't enough female characters for screen, so the male supporting actors didn't get much of a run. It was just like a frank sinatra film where you watched frank go from one poster scene to another. It had a good setting, there was a plot, claude rains was in it.
