I still have my Sony DVD-VCR combo player that will play DVD or VHS tapes. The only problem is I had to throw away many of my old VHS tapes because, over time, they'd develop what is not too commonly known as "bit rot" due to the quality of the magnetic tape. Overall VHS actually loses quality over the years due to bit rot and eventually this will cause errors and glitches when playing the video cassettes. Similar to having to throw away old audio cassettes from the late 80s due to the horrible quality of sound 30+ years later. DVDs will last a lot longer as long as you keep them protected, stored properly and away from humidity or higher temperature.
