i wouldn't trust an imageboard that's run by someone who is involved in the community. still it's a good idea to use a vpn or tor on smaller imageboards because you could piss of the admin and he could dox you. on 4chan it doesn't matter so much because there's so many users no one stands out enough for that to happen
