my gut wrenches when I remember the excitement I think we all felt the moment I found sturdy, "NOW BACK IN HD!" playing celebratory music, a full 1920x1080p webm with some kind of animation. I still have it, saw it the other day. nothing was moderated, anons were just posting what they wanted without constant twitter spam nonsense or any obligation to post anything that wasn't fun.

I imagine that that's what 4chan was like in it's first few days or even weeks as moot tried to get everyone to move. free. and from there we've been on this perpetual downward slide that has left true oldfags (which I am not one of) truly jaded and cynical about anything and everything because they have been so thoroughly betrayed by other posters and the site administration they believed was their friend. They have had twenty years of betrayal. I was born into the shittiness but sturdy was my chance to experience freedom for a short time so I could live through the same thing the oldfags did when they moved sites. The quick destruction of freedom, total ritual humiliation.

I miss sturdy like I'm sure oldfags miss old 4chan. Doesn't it make you just want to cry?
