I disagree slightly because I used to lurk on 4chan and I liked /v/ and /rk9/ for greentext stories. I know that pepe is a /rk9/ meme originally there is just things that you know that makes you more fit to post. Where I do see that being used is on 8chan. They have a regimen of making the redditors they lured lurk for 2 years. Watch the astroturfing for 2 years and then red text kike to fit in. That is where it isn't about lurking but emulating and fitting in. If you actually lurked the board for 2 years then clearly you have seen varied interests control the narrative and the attention of the board.
