I have been using Invidio.us whenever I encounter YouTube videos but Invidio.us only proxies the HTML and API content not the thumbnails and videos, those are still fetched from Google's servers.
Though the developer behind Invidio.us has said he's trying to create a proxy for that as well when he can fix an issue with geolocation.
Still it's better than YouTube IMO.
