It might yeah, because each are seems to have been hit with their own 終末 instead of just everyone everywhere turning into animals, so it could have some other significance.
I could see in like the second or third to last episode there being a part where our main four girls suddenly turn into animals themselves or something though.
I was expecting a more typical apocalypse setting going into it, so I was caught pretty off guard too, but I definitely like this more surreal setting.
