War of the Running Dogs is about the Malayan Emergency, reading it made me realise just how much it was a precursor to the Vietnam War. The way the MNLA operated and treated the locals is the exact way the VC operated and treated the local South Vietnamese double taxation via both the government and communist guerrillas, brutal intimidation tactics, the whole "hearts and minds" things that the British actually successfully implemented, the VC and North Vietnam basically took what the MNLA did and succeeded with it.
