Modern usage of virtue is disconnected from "life" in any literal meaning of the word that I sort of just didn't think about what the word started as in Latin through Italian. I just assume Latin loanword akin to vita(e) that made sense. See, you're getting it. Go read old Danish works from medieval times and gain appreciation of your language.
