Well, yes and no, you're partly right.
Green AK furniture, the wood kind, was actually issued on celebratory rifles to mark distinguished service in some Soviet units. But then also the Russian border patrol adopted green plastic furniture for their rifles some time later when the polymer AK74M sets started being issued.
Here I just... really like the color green, and the ""Jade"" color this guy is staining.
