Sometimes I think about the plot line in Spirit Circle about a future world where the birthrate completely collapses after technology reaches the point where preserving people immediately before death is feasible and affordable, and as a result there are now not enough souls to go around. But I am convinced that in reality, souls are in limited supply but many people are simply born without them, especially when we live in a world where the human population is larger than ever.
