Burton also was a creative talent with prominent role in making music from the moment of his recruitment. This led to the birth of the varied palette of Ride the Lightning, their second album. They still had some leftover riffs from Mustain, and had Burton's acknowledged grip on musical theory. From the 8 songs of the album, he was credited at 5, so he was an active contributor not just in the theory.

Ride the Lightning for Mustain, it features what he calls the "Spider Chord Riff". According to him, the melodic intro is from Lars.
The Call of Ktulu, again because of Mustain, the demo title was When The Hell Freezes over, supposedly. He said the "long drawn-out part in the middle" was added after.
Let's put Trapped Under Ice and Creeping Death here too.
The first is just remainder of exclusions - I don't like Escape, and For Whom The Bell Tolls and Fade To Black are just too damn popular (I can understand that they are good songs). I include Creeping Death for the lyrics, it tells the tale of that Biblical story, when Jewish death squads crept through Egypt, butchering the first borns of Egyptians, among them the pharaoh's.
Btw For Whom The Bell Tolls kinda reminds me of One; for Fade to Black they got some flames from the fans, was too slow and clear for OG thrash metal listeners.
