I dunno if I want to cast a judgement on them, that Metallica is a big name, but better bands out there, better musicians, who are less known, because they do have many songs that I like and would consider great. They were also one of the bands who defined and shaped thrash metal. However they weren't consistent with their material. The reason is that unlike how I wrote in the beginning, now I think James and Lars did not have a tangible idea what music to play, and relied heavily onto the other band members, who left or died, so they were influenced to play different things.
This change in style can be observed at other bands, for example at - one of my favourite - The Haunted, where the changes of vocalists made huge impact. But they consistently remained at metal, the contrast between the genres and the sounding isn't that strong.

Well, these tracks were from the Live Shit: Binge & Purge live concert record from 1993 in Mexico City. Picked "Jason-heavy" songs, with him singing and playing solo.

My sources were:
- Wikipee
- the ED article about Metallica (check it out, it's hilarious: https://encyclopediadramatica.wiki/index.php/Metallica - "Wrote 'Em All" by Mustain keks)
- various articles on the internet chiefly about the controversy with Mustain
