Just because the US govt aren't the good guys it doesn't mean those can be found in Moscow and Beijing.
Also being neutral for small(er) countries just doesn't work. Imagine a town without police but two rival mobs. If one doesn't extort a business, the other will.
Russia has the same imperialist mindset as the US does. Russia even owned that mindset before US could grow out the diapers. It's either naive to think that Russia would leave alone the small guys if the US won't provoke her by making those into her clients, or a purposeful Russian propaganda line. On this board I was accused being a Kremlin-bot, so I rather assume the first situation in case of you.
Same with China, and with the "separatists".
For smaller countries, the only way for neutrality would be: band together and get nukes. Or one conquers all and somehow eradicates national identities - done in such a quick pace noone can intervene or prevent them - meanwhile getting nukes.
