Several thousand people decided to emigrate. There were two routes: towards the West via Austria (surprisingly) and via the Ottoman Empire. Among the emigres we can find Governor Kossuth, and many officers. For a short while they counted on a war breaking out between the Ottos, Austria and Russia, later they worked on the reignition of the Hungarian freedom fight. Slowly they all given up. Quite a few joined in the Italian unification fights and the American Civil War, both places they were valuable with their experience.
We can count as real victory the amnesty of the defenders of the Komárom fort, soldiers and civilians. Tho a lot of them were pressed into the Imperial army later. They achieved this feat by defeating the sieging army of the Habsburgs, and when the siege renewed with the arriving Russian troops, they decided to negotiate with the defenders instead. They put down the weapons on October 2-4.
