It took an hour but after a lot of testing it seems like despite registering my ssd with windows on it as being connected to my SATA-1 port, it wasnt loading it in the boot setup. so I could just swap it to another sata port and then it worked.
I would give my computer 1-2 more years before it completely crumbles
