because I throw my Q and E to start the fight, and when I start a fight I always have a full magazine (I constantly reload). Putting on the W allows me to refresh my ammo mid fight and prevents those scenarios where I don't kill someone and stand around reloading for 4 seconds as they fortnite dance on me.

It only gives a shield at the max upgrade, and that is the last ability I will purchase in the game. And a shield in the middle of a fight is just as useful as a shield at the start of a fight, it'll still get used.
