I wouldn't be surprised. It seems every single major Western city has gone to complete shit these days, it's far better just living in a small town or in a rural rust belt State tucked away with some private property. The downside is longer commuting to get to needed places: work, banks/credit unions, grocery stores, hardware stores, supermarkets, doctors/hospitals, eateries/diners, etc. When gas prices go up it hurts the folks who have to commute long distances too (you'd have to do everything in one planned strategic trip and get everything you need done out of the way in one whole day). It's not as convenient but it's overall safer to live, less taxation, nicer environment, more freedom, more elbowroom and fresher air, overall better hardworking culture (albeit there are some seedy areas too, must beware of some rural trailer parks with armed meth addicts, that's a very real risk especially in the rust belt States which are filled with poorer folks).
