I think the end of the Sims games was symbolic. Sim City was a high-IQ experience meant to sell you on the intellectual side of vidya. Then they killed that franchise, and gave you babbling loon "Sims" that light themselves on fire by accident all the time. Vidya shifted from building, exploration to nothing but arena, death match, competitive stuff. That's definitely military programming.
