Oh wow this thread is still going. OP here. I think there's a definite connection to Freemasonry and Islam. That may explain the Muslim symbolism in the original OOT fire temple adn some of the Islamic/shriner looking architecture. Gannon symbolizes the desert God Set doing battle against the green gods Osiris and Horus.
