The Nationalist Party of China government was the only legal government in mainland China and a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council. The CCP revolted, and the Chinese government lost all of its territories except Taiwan Island to the CCP rebels. In the end, the permanent seat of the UN Security Council also fell into the hands of communist rebels.
