Hotwheels chose these 'friends' because they flatter him. IMO, he started with the wrong attitude and likely alienated his original friends. Real friends won't put up with a bad attitude, probably told him off about it until he metaphorically 'walked off,' feeling sorry for himself. Tells next group how he was betrayed, etc.--they try to help but no dice, he's too demanding. He time he leaves, his new group is lower down a rung of psychological balance and moral integrity. Finally reached the ninth circle of hell: Q haters & total manipulators.
