5 Republicans Vote to Allow Witnesses in Impeachment Trial

The Senate voted Saturday 55-45 to allow witnesses in the second impeachment trial of former President Donald Trump with five Repbublicans joining all 50 Democrats.

As Saturday's session of former President Donald Trump's impeachment trial began, Democratic impeachment managers immediately called for witnesses following Friday night media reports that Trump told a top congressional Republican during the deadly assault by his supporters on the Capitol last month that the mob was "more upset" about his election defeat than lawmakers.

Trump attorney Michael van der Veen said if one witness is called by the defense, he would request 100 by the defense.
