Sen. Dianne Feinstein dead at 90

Dianne Feinstein, whose political career took her from the San Francisco Board of Supervisors to decades as California’s senior senator, died Thursday, according to sources familiar with the situation. She was 90.

Feinstein once said in an interview that “I tend to do my best during the most difficult times.”

The former San Francisco mayor and longtime U.S. senator, whose national political career took off after one of the city’s bloodiest and most devastating tragedies, led a life seemingly designed to prove that true.
