2018 State of the Union Address
President Trump delivered his first State of the Union address to a joint session of Congress. He covered a range of themes, including national security, immigration, opioid addiction, infrastructure, the economy, and the actions of his administration over the past year. Throughout his speech, the president described everyday Americans who had performed heroic acts, such as a police officer who adopted the child of a mother addicted to heroin, and he praised the work of first responders and volunteers to the hurricanes, wildfires, mass shootings, and other crises of the past year. The president called on Congress to work together to pass immigration reform and rebuild the nation’s infrastructure, saying, “I call upon all of us to set aside our differences, to seek out common ground, and to summon the unity we need to deliver for the people.”
